Computing
Our vision
At Park Hill Junior school we take computing very seriously and incorporate technology to complement our curriculum. We hope to prepare our pupils for a future in an environment which is shaped by technology. In classrooms, you will find Chromebooks, ipads and cameras used across the school in a cross-curricular capacity to aid the entire breadth of subjects taught as well as strengthen their digital literacy skills. We aim to develop confident, independent learners who are able to plan, design, create, program and evaluate information through the use of technology.
From an early age, today’s children are being exposed to a wide variety of interactive media, from television to the internet, from mobiles to tablets; our children are being born into an increasingly digital world. We therefore see E-Safety as a central focus of all Computing learning and, as such, ‘The Education for a Connected World Framework’ is taught from Year 3 through to Year 6 to ensure children know how to stay safe online. This is reinforced through the ‘relationships’ puzzle piece within our PSHE scheme of work, Jigsaw. We also take part in the annual ‘safer internet’ day which educates children about their digital footprint.
Throughout the year we hold parent workshops centered around using internet safely at home and how you can protect your children from online threats.
Our curriculum
At Key stage 2 Pupils are taught to:

design, write and debug programs that accomplish specific goals, including controlling or simulating physical systems; solve problems by decomposing them into smaller parts

use sequence, selection, and repetition in programs; work with variables and various forms of input and output

use logical reasoning to explain how some simple algorithms work and to detect and correct errors in algorithms and programs

understand computer networks including the internet; how they can provide multiple services, such as the world wide web; and the opportunities they offer for communication and collaboration

use search technologies effectively, appreciate how results are selected and ranked, and be discerning in evaluating digital content

select, use and combine a variety of software (including internet services) on a range of digital devices to design and create a range of programs, systems and content that accomplish given goals, including collecting, analysing, evaluating and presenting data and information

use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly; recognise acceptable/unacceptable behaviour; identify a range of ways to report concerns about content and contact.
